PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Quality Inn, Applebee’s most likely
will soon be part of the Sequim community. Good or bad depending on
your perspective, change is steadily coming. Growth is inevitable as
more and more people discover what we have and enjoy here. There is
the old saying “when in Rome do as the Romans do”. Let’s hope that those
who join our community take that to heart and adopt a slower, friendly, caring,
and sharing way and leave behind the rushing, distrustful leave me alone
attitudes of the big cities they left behind. We all need to reflect
occasionally on the things that attracted us to Sunshine Acres.
With that thought in mind it is time to realize that
Sunshine Acres is just one, albeit a significant part, of the Greater Diamond
Point Community which consists of Sunshine Acres, Diamond Point #1 and #2
Home Owners Assoc., Critter Country Lane, Protection Point, Johnson’s and
Beach Club parcels along with the DP Airport Assoc. With that premise
in mind this newsletter and subsequent newsletters will include items that
not only relate to SAPOA, but the entire Greater Diamond Point Community.
However since your SAPOA dues fund these newsletters, mailings will continue
to go only to SAPOA members.
The first step is discussions with the Diamond Point Assoc regarding enlarging
our reader board to provide them the opportunity of sharing that space with
us. They would fund that enlargement and joint guidelines would be drafted
to control what is displayed. We would also offer to post notices of
general community interest on our SAPOA web site. In this case no additional
expense is generated, only the web master’s time which is free. Well
almost free. I might have to buy her an extra box of chocolates.
Take an interest in your neighborhood, the Greater Diamond Point, and Sequim
communities. We have a splendid environment here, changing yes, but
change can be good if people share their views and participate in directing
those changes.
C E R T Training
A second Community Emergency Response Team training session
is in the planning stage. This group would supplement the previously
trained 19 members. We would like to have up to 20 participants for
these classes. Men, women, and older teens are all welcome to join this
effort. To sign up contact CERT Leader Dan Abbott at 582-3824
Diamond Point Airport Day
Don’t miss the August 7, 2004 DPAA fly-in, airplane
displays, and barbeque. Bring your cameras, sunglasses, and a hearty
appetite. Also bring a buck or two for the raffles. There are
always great donated prizes and flying demonstrations. For more information
contact Dave Rodgers at 683-6333.
Greater Diamond Point Yard Sale
On June 26, 2004 the Greater Diamond Point area will
hold a community wide yard sale from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you wish
to participate please place several colored balloons on your mail box so
interested parties can find you and set up your own displays. We are
encouraging SAPOA participants to donate part or all of the proceeds to community
programs.
In the case of SAPOA members those donations will go to the Community Emergency
Response Training (CERT) activities to purchase equipment such as 2 way radios
and emergency medical supplies. For additional information or answers
contact SAPOA Director Dan Abbott at 582-3824.
Donations after the event may be made to CERT Leader, Dan Abbott at
442 Madrona Way, Sequim, WA 98382.
Vicious Aggressive Dogs
Complaints continue to be voiced regarding dog problems. All our plat
covenants prohibit property owners from letting their animals run loose.
Barking dogs and people who do not pick up after their pets are frustrating
and a nuisance, but loose aggressive dogs are down right dangerous to residents
and smaller pets. Residents do not have to put up with these inconsiderate
owners and dangerous animals. If you experience an aggressive animal
that is loose please report the situation ASAP to the Clallam County Sheriff
animal control officer Deputy Tracy Kallas at 417-2459. The squeaky
wheel gets the oil!
Aggressive vicious guard dogs are unnecessary here. This isn’t a crime
infested ghetto. The best defense here is watchful neighbors.
Heck you seldom have to feed them or clean up afterwards.
2004-2005 Budget Ballots
2004-2005 Annual Budget Ballots were mailed to all fully
paid up SAPOA members the week of May 25th. Please review the information
and vote your wishes. Ballots must be returned and received by June
25, 2004.
Board of Directors Elections
SAPOA Board of Directors members Everett Stauffer and
Lew Morello will complete their 3 year terms August 31, 2004. This will
create the opportunity for volunteers to fill those positions. If interested
and willing please attend the July 10 th SAPOA Annual Members Meeting and
step forward.
Mussel Beach Road Project
Requests for construction bids were sent out in April
to selected firms. The Beach Road Committee is currently working with
Ken Clark of Clark Land and John Dickenson of We Dig It to finalize plan revisions.
Our efforts are aimed at getting the highest level of repairs at the lowest
possible cost to SAPOA. Achievable yes! Difficult yes!
Impossible No! We are still confident that we can turn dirt in 2004.
Financial Audit
A volunteer/volunteers are still needed to audit 2003-2004
SAPOA financial records. This is a bylaws requirement. We do not
want to be forced to hire this done at significant costs. Someone please
step up!
