The JDBVT property owners stepped up

large potholes on the access road soon will be filled. Additional

DIAMOND POINT WATER COMMITTEE
By Hugh VanderHeul
This article sums up the recent
events with the Aquarius Util LLC serving Diamond Point. Washington
Water System serves our neighbors in Sunshine Acres.
The day Aquarius well #1 failed, 4th of July, was also the day
we’d discovered what some had suspected all along. Well #2 was
not functional and had not functioned for years.
Here is the abbreviated timeline of all events
to date: July 4th Received notification of well failure,
DPWC advised water conservation. Residents at the higher elevations
were running on low pressure and flow.
- July
6th Temporary links to Washington Water System
were made. See photo below.
- July
8th Department of Health
issues a “Boil Water Advisory” to residents of the higher elevations.
- July
14th Well #2 is on-line. Aquarius is disconnected
from Washington Water. Speed bumps were removed!
- July
15th The main line is leaking at the well
site. Well shut down and pipe is isolated until repairs are
made.
- July
16th Main is fixed, chlorinated, flushed and
put back on line.
- July
21st Last of the bottled water supply is used
up. Washington Water is available for drinking water container
filling at the Real Estate office.
- July
27th First set of 5 samples are returned from
the lab “satisfactory”.
- July
28th Second set of 5 samples are returned
from the lab “satisfactory”. The DOH issues
a “Rescind Boil Water Advisory”, effective immediately.
- Aug
10th Well #1 and #2 are now delivering water
on an alternating duty cycle.
- Aug
31st DPWC will check with Aquarius on final
tidying up of the well site and the show and tell of the wells
function and cycling.
DPWC has worked with Greg Roats
of Aquarius, primarily by communicating on a frequent basis via
email. Approx. 20 updates were published. The irony is
that for the fast majority of us, we hardly experienced any impact.
All during this time most had reasonable water flow and pressures,
short of one day. However, the residents at the upper elevations
were impacted severely. From July 8th to July 28th
they were on a “Boil Water Advisory”, and had poor water pressure
and flow as long as the metal tank was out of service. Saturday,
Aug 21st the lower PRV station was malfunctioning and it will be serviced
Aug. 24th.
What is the future of this water system? Funding
has been approved via the State Drinking Water Revolving Fund
for a .5% loan to upgrade the distribution system scheduled for
completion by end of 2005 and tank upgrades, to be completed in 2006
The DPWC will continue its meetings with Greg
Roats and review plans when appropriate. In closing, we now
have a 2 pump system and wish to thank the residents of Sunshine
Acres, who experienced lower than usual flows and pressure while their
system supplied our homes.

PUBLIC WORKS BOARD - Aquarius Customer
The head of the Public Works
Board for Washington State is John LaRocque. He is currently
working on restoring the “free grant program” to rehabilitate
failing water systems by acquiring them for the PUD. The PUD in
Sequim may be allowed to use the grant money to purchase and rehabilitate
Aquarius.
Aquarius customers may be asked to participate
in Mr. LaRocque’s presentation to the governor’s office and
legislative staff in Olympia this year.
If the free grant program is renewed it would
be implemented in June 2005. None of this information
changes Greg Roat’s current upgrade projects for Diamond Point’s
water system. He will continue as scheduled and would be
compensated for what he has completed if and when we were to participate
in the grant program.
Mr. LaRocque wrote to Leslie Farrell on July
22, 2004:
“once again, thanks for letting us help you
out with this. and I hate to use the adage that no good deed
goes unpunished or that doing good work leads to more work..but
it might be very helpful to have a person who is personally affected
by a failing water system work with us to convince the money controllers
that this is worth investing in again...I’ll keep you posted.…”

EDITORIAL SECTION:
SEALS, DOGS, KIDS &
MOTORCYCLES
A resident of Critter Country
tells us folks here on the bluff of a "seal happening". She reports
that Dyanna Lambourn of the Washington State Marine Mammal Investigative
Division was present in the neighborhood. Dyanna was looking
into a seal having been attacked on one of our beaches by an
unleashed dog. Even though survival was questionable the seal was
taken to a vet. No report of the outcome as of this writing. In case
of a marine animal emergency, contact State Marine Wildlife (206)
526-4747.
This being a weekend happening it led to a
wider discussion covering a problem created by some of our weekend
visitors as well as some residents who have unleashed dogs (and
sometimes other pets) as well as younger children, some with small
motorcycles
The motorcycles are ridden on the roads, as
well as paths along the roads (these paths are part of the
roads), but rules of the road are not always followed. While nobody
wants to put a damper on some fun riding, do realize the following.
The mix of unlicensed under age children on motorcycles and automobile
drivers (some elderly) on the same road is dangerous.
Throughout Greater Diamond Point, with increasing
frequency, as the lady from Critter Country says, "usually
during weekends". It can only lead to ever more serious problems
Please keep pets from attacking wildlife and Greater Diamond Point
free from roadside memorial crosses.
Diamond Point Airport Association provided
a wonderful Airport Day for residents at Greater Diamond Point!
Thank you from everyone! |
